Ledger.com/Start® | How to Set Up Your Ledger Device Step-by-Step

Follow this official guide to initialize and secure your Ledger® hardware wallet for safe crypto storage.

Welcome to Ledger Start

Setting up your Ledger® device is the first step in taking control of your digital assets. Whether you’ve purchased a Ledger Nano X or Nano S Plus, this guide will walk you through the complete setup process — safely, securely, and easily. By the end, you’ll have your crypto wallet ready to manage Bitcoin, Ethereum, and thousands of other assets with confidence.

Step 1: Go to Ledger.com/Start®

Begin by opening your browser and visiting the official website Ledger.com/Start. Always double-check the URL to avoid phishing websites. You’ll find the latest version of the Ledger Live app here — the essential software used to connect your device to your computer or smartphone.

Step 2: Download and Install Ledger Live

Click on the download button for your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux, or mobile). Install the application following the on-screen instructions. Ledger Live lets you manage your accounts, track your portfolio, and install crypto apps on your device.

Step 3: Connect Your Ledger Device

Plug your Ledger Nano X or S Plus into your computer using the provided USB cable. If you’re using Nano X, you can also connect via Bluetooth to your smartphone. Once connected, your device will display a welcome message.

Step 4: Set Up a New Device

Choose the option “Set up as new device.” Then, create a PIN code using the device buttons. This code protects access to your wallet in case your device is lost or stolen. Make sure it’s unique and not easy to guess.

Step 5: Write Down Your Recovery Phrase

Your device will now display 24 words — your recovery phrase. Write them down carefully on the provided recovery sheet. These words are the only backup of your crypto assets. Never take a picture or store them online. Keep them offline and safe.

Step 6: Confirm Your Recovery Phrase

The device will ask you to confirm your 24-word phrase by selecting each word in order. This step ensures that you have written everything down correctly. Once confirmed, your Ledger device will be securely initialized.

Step 7: Install Apps via Ledger Live

Open Ledger Live and navigate to the Manager section. From here, you can install crypto apps such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Solana directly to your device. Each app allows you to manage corresponding assets safely.

Step 8: Add Accounts and Manage Your Crypto

In Ledger Live, go to Accounts → Add Account and select your desired cryptocurrency. Follow the on-screen prompts to synchronize your wallet. You can now receive, send, and monitor your crypto holdings securely.

Step 9: Stay Secure and Updated

Always keep your device firmware and Ledger Live app updated. Avoid sharing your recovery phrase and never enter it on any website or computer. Ledger will never ask for it — ever. Updates bring new features and enhanced protection against emerging threats.

Step 10: You’re Ready!

Congratulations! You’ve successfully set up your Ledger hardware wallet. You now hold the keys to your digital freedom. Ledger devices protect your crypto assets with cutting-edge security — combining simplicity with peace of mind.
